      Iglesia de San Francisco (San Francisco Church), Zamora Street

Coro more importants religious buildings are San Francisco Church and the Cathedral. The Holy Sacrament Chapel of this Church has one f the most beautiful "alfarje mudejar" of the country. The original structures were burned by pirates and rebuilt in 1620. A century later, the church was reconstructed in adobe; then the single nave was expanded to three; finally in the early 1990s the tower was demolished and the neo-Gothic facade added.

The Church displays the highest Tower in Coro City with 50 mts. de altura.
Currently, San Francisco Church is closed for restauration work.

Adjacent to the Church is the Museo Diocesano de Coro, one of the finest Art Museums in Venezuela and in former times a Franciscan monastery. The Museum is very large, and covers two floors of religious art in gold, silver, glass;( vast collection of wood carvings of saints and indians relics.The Museum also has an sample of bells, furniture, paints and sculptures belonging to the Colonial time. A 800 years old statue of San Peter can be seen here as well as 450 year old monstrance.

The Museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m and 3:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m, Sunday from 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. For more information call (58 - 68) 511298.
