CASA DEL TESORO

Casa del Tesoro (Treasure House), Zamora Street

Built in 1770 by Andrés Talavera, the House consists in general terms in one pavilion with three bedrooms and vestibule, similar to the Ventanas de Hierro. These kind of constructions are typic of the eighteenth century. The city has a considerable number of Houses of Hispanic architecture.

Mariano de Talavera y Garcés, Bishop of Guayana and relative of the patriot Josefa Camejo, was born here in this house so it is also known as "Bishop House".

Some stories said that when Andres Talavera died, his wealth disappeared, giving rise to tales of buried treasure (hence the name). Many generations have dug for, and even found tunnels, but no fortune has been recovered.
